Millie Martin Murderer Sentenced
The man found guilty of murdering Enniskillen toddler Millie Martin will serve a minimum of 25 years in prison, the BBC has reported.
33-year-old Barry McCarney from Trillick in County Tyrone was also handed an undetermined sentence for sexually and physically abusing the child.
Millie suffered a fatal head injury, 21 rib fractures and sexual injuries during the period of abuse.
Her mother Rachael was cleared of allowing her daughter's death and cruelty through wilful neglect.
The 15-month-old child died on 11 December 2009, after having been brought in to hospital in Enniskillen with serious injuries.
During the trial, the court has heard Millie suffered multiple injuries, including a blow to the back of her head which proved fatal.
Mr McCarney has always claimed he is innocent
But the jury returned a guilty verdict, saying they were convinced the accused had carried out the abuse and then tried to camouflage his tracks.
