Stormont Intervene To Save Crumlin Road Courthouse
The future of one of Northern Ireland’s best-known listed buildings is to be decided by Stormont.
The Crumlin Road Courthouse in north Belfast has been derelict and in a state of serious disrepair for 15 years.
A number of fires have left the 160-year-old building exposed to the elements.
However, an architect for the building's owner has said it is not beyond repair.
Despite the building being owned by a private developer Stormont is to intervene with an action plan.
Architect Dawson Stelfox said: “The No 1 court which is probably the most historic part of the building has survived the fire the most. Although it looks terrible and it is terrible and it would be great to see work starting immediately. The reality is that we still have a structure here which is very important and which can be restored."
A report, to establish the building's condition and value, has now been commissioned by Stormont, who also select the preferred development option.
It is understood that taking back public ownership through vesting or buying the courthouse is a possibility.

Lidl Northern Ireland Opens Two New Stores
Lidl Northern Ireland has announced the reopening of its Stewartstown Road store in West Belfast and the opening of a new store in Carryduff. The Stewartstown Road store, which has undergone a major redevelopment, will reopen on December 5th. The new Carryduff store, Lidl’s 43rd in Northern Ireland, will open on December 12th.

Hard-Hitting Road Safety Message Delivered To Young People
Over 800 young people from schools in Lisburn and Castlereagh attended a hard-hitting road safety message at the PSNI Road Safe Roadshow on 19 November. The roadshow, supported by AXA Insurance and the Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership, aims to educate young drivers about the dangers of irresponsible driving.
