Man Found Dead After Fight In L'Derry

A 42-year-old man has been found dead following a fight in the centre of L’Derry.

The man was allegedly punched by another man in the Shipquay Gate area at about 02:50 early on Tuesday morning.

His body was then discovered in a house in John Street at 10:00.

A post-mortem has been carried out, but police say they are not treating the death as suspicious.

Suspect Acquitted In Sexual Abuse Case

A 75-year-old man has been told he is free to go, after being acquitted of the sexual abuse of a boy almost 50 years ago.

Harold Greer, from Grange Road in Magherafelt, County L’Derry, had denied the charges against him, which were alleged to have occurred over seven years from 1965.

A prosecution barrister said no further prosecution evidence was being offered in the case.

Suspicious Device Closes Antrim Road

The Antrim Road has been closed near Glengormley police station on Thursday morning following the discovery of a suspicious device.

A security alert has closed the Antrim Road in both directions around the police station.

Motorists have been advised to avoid the area.

Two Arrested Over Peace Bridge Robbery

Two people have been arrested in connection with a robbery which occurred on the Peace bridge in L’Derry.

A 19-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man are currently being held, after a woman was robbed at knife point on Tuesday evening at 20:25.

The woman was walking towards the Waterside when a man approached her and stole her handbag.

The woman was not injured but was left badly shaken.

Serious Road Crash In L'Derry
A serious road crash has occurred on the Chapel Road in L'Derry. A car and a motorbike where involved in the incident, according to the police. One man, believed to be a teenager, has been taken to hospital where his injuries are believed to be serious. The road has been closed at its junctions with Newlyn Terrace and Spencer Road.

Man Dies In Workplace Accident In Co Armagh
A man has died in a workplace accident in Co Armagh. It is believed the man was crushed by a road roller while a new road surface was being laid on the Bog Road, Forkhill, on Wednesday, 31 May. Police and the Health and Safety Executive have launched an investigation.

Woman Killed In Co Armagh Road Collision
A woman in her 30s has been killed in a road crash in Portadown, Co Armagh. The woman was hit by a car as she was walking on the side of the Moy Road at around 9.45pm on Tuesday. The road was closed for a short time but it has been reopened. Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
