Dalai Lama To Visit L'Derry
The Dalai Lama is to visit L’Derry as part of an event during the city’s stint as 2013 UK City of Culture.
The Tibetan leader will be guest of honour at the 'Culture of Compassion' event in the city on 18 April, as a patron of Children in Crossfire.
The charity aims to protect the rights of children through supporting organisations to train professional people like teachers, doctors, lawyers, police, the media and local communities.
The event will be held on the theme of 'compassion' and will explore the meaning and power of compassion in engaging with communities in a positive way.
The day will include artists, performers and members of the community sharing personal stories of 'compassion in action'.
Children in Crossfire are also running a Youth Compassion Award in partnership with the Office of Tibet. The Dalai Lama will present an award to a local young person to recognise their acts of kindness.
Richard Moore, Director of Children in Crossfire said, "We are thrilled to welcome His Holiness back to Derry/Londonderry. He came to the city six years ago as part of our 10th Anniversary celebrations and has been a dedicated patron of the charity since that time.
"We are delighted that people from across Northern Ireland and beyond will have an opportunity to see and hear him speak during this City of Culture year".
