Rory McIlroy Suffers WGC Defeat

Rory McIlroy has been knocked out in the opening round of the WGC Match Play in Arizona.

The world number one lost on the final green to fellow Irishman Shane Lowry.

Tiger Woods and Lee Westwood were also knocked out on Thursday.

McIlroy changed club and ball suppliers from Titleist to Nike at the start of this year in a big money deal.

"I drove really well, but couldn't take advantage of that," McIlroy said. "If I'd hit my irons better it could have been a different story.

"I could have been three or four up early on, but let him get back into the match and he had a nice little run."

Rory McIlroy Wins Title In Atlanta And Claims FedEx Cup
Ulsterman Rory McIlroy has won the Tour Championship in Atlanta. The Holywood golfer secured victory in a play off to clinch the FedEx Cup title and won $10million (£7.7m), as well as $1.5m (£1.15m) in the tournaments. Kevin Chappell, who was the joint leader with Dustin Johnson, hit a bogey on the 17th which allowed McIlroy and Ryan Moore back in.

Traffic Warning For South Belfast Ahead Of Northern Ireland Match

Rory McIlroy Extends Deal With Nike
Co Down golfer Rory McIlroy has extended his clothing contract with Nike. McIlroy signed a deal in 2013 and he has entered a contract for a further ten years. The firm announced last year that it would no longer produces clubs and balls and is to focus on golf clothing and footwear.
