St George's Rent Request Dismissed
Belfast City Council has turned down a request from St George's market traders for two months rent free to compensate for lost trade during Union Flag Protests.
The traders have noted their disappointment but have welcomed the councils plans not increase stall fees for 2014.
Free rent would have cost the council just over £65,000. It is also believed they feared the agreement would lead to further requests from other traders.
Loyalist flag protests have been taking place since 3 December, when Belfast City Council voted to limit the number of days the union flag is flown outside the City Hall.

Belfast City Council has approved plans to award £1.25 million of funding for Belfast City Centre in the aftermath of the Primark fire. The move follows Primark's announcement earlier this week that it is to donate £500,000 to Council's wider city recovery investment programme to help businesses affected by the fire.
