Project To Tackle Interfaces In North Belfast Welcomed
Justice Minister David Ford has welcomed a £471,000 project to tackle interfaces in North Belfast.
Led by the Duncairn Community Partnership and funded by the International Fund for Ireland the project will work to create the community confidence needed to bring down the barriers of division.
Speaking at the launch of the project at Groundwork NI, Mr Ford said: "I welcome this significant injection of funding from the International Fund for Ireland. The Duncairn Community Partnership has put together an ambitious and wide-ranging programme. I very much support what they are trying to do.
"At the heart of the plan is the commitment to community engagement. I have always been clear that this is the only way forward and this programme will enable just that. Change must be led by the communities directly affected.
"The Partnership will now focus on producing plans, in consultation with the community, for each specific site within their remit. I look forward to seeing these plans once completed.
"Tackling interfaces will naturally take time as we build confidence and address concerns. I am encouraged however, by the leadership and commitment from the Duncairn Community Partnership. Important cross-community relationships have been built up over many years and these have led to progress. What I can see in this community is a real desire to build a safer, shared and more confident future for all."

Community Projects Funded By Living Places And Spaces Scheme
Some 107 projects are to be funded through the Living Places and Spaces grant scheme, Infrastructure Minister Nichola Mallon has announced. £750,000 was available for the scheme, which was delivered by The National Lottery Community Fund, from the Minister’s £20million Blue Green Infrastructure Fund.
