Teenager charged with attempted murder of two policemen

A north Belfast teenager has been charged with attempting to murder two policemen last weekend.

The 16-year-old youth, who cannot be named because of his age, appeared before Belfast Magistrates Court in relation to the charge.

Two officers were injured during trouble in the area last weekend when a shotgun was fired at police as they tried to restore order during rioting between rival loyalist and nationalist gangs.

The youth, who was additionally charged with riotous behaviour earlier on the same night, was remanded in custody.
