Former director of NI tour company disqualified
The High Court has disqualified a former Northern Ireland tour operator after Maple Leaf Tours (NI) racked up debts of nearly £750,000.
Shane Carroll, who is currently resident in Canada, was banned from being a company director for a period of seven years as a result of his conduct as a director of Maple Leaf Tours (NI) Limited.
The case, which was heard on the 10 April 2003, was brought by the Insolvency Service of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment under the Companies (NI) Order 1989 which seeks to protect the public and trading community from the abuses of the privilege conferred by limited liability status.
Maple Leaf Tours Limited (formerly called Drumsesk Builders Limited) traded from June 1994 to March 1999 in the promotion of flights to Canada and the USA from Northern Ireland. The company was wound up by the High Court on 19 October 2000 with debts of £47,817. After taking into account the losses incurred by members (shareholders, including the directors) of the company debts were estimated to be over £712,000.

SF Calls For Action On NI Mental Health Services
Sinn Féin has called for more to be done to improve mental health services across the north of Ireland. The party's mental health spokesperson, MLA Órlaithí Flynn, made the call after the release of the Registrar General's 2023 Annual Report which has highlighted an increase in deaths by suicide in 2023.

Builders Fined Over Teen's Death On Site
Two construction companies have been fined £50,000 each following the death of a teenager at a Newtownards demolition site. Philip Mulholland, aged 17, had started his first day at the Blacks Industrial Complex site in Short Street when the accident happened in February 2005.
