Men Arrested Over Dissident Activity
Two men have been arrested by detectives from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch investigating dissident Republican activity in L'Derry.
A number of suspected firearms, a quantity of ammunition and a suspected pipe bomb were recovered when police stopped two vehicles in the Northland Road area of the city at around 20:00 on Friday 12 April.
The Northland Road was closed and a number of properties were evacuated while officers examined the scene.
Two men aged 20 and 54 were arrested at the scene and taken to Antrim Serious Crime Suite, where they are assisting police with their enquiries.
Follow-up searches were carried out in the area, whereupon various items and a vehicle were seized.
The Northland Road re-opened and residents were allowed back to their properties at around 05:30 the following morning.
District Commander Chief Superintendent Stephen Cargin said: "We have seen again the blatant disregard of those individuals willing to endanger life in our community. I have nothing but praise for the officers involved in the operation.
"I would also like to thank members of the community for their patience as we continued our investigations last night. Police would ask that everyone in the community continue to work with us to take weapons off our streets and put those responsible behind bars."

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

House of Lords vote for ‘50/50’ police force
The House of Lords has renewed the 50/50 recruitment rule for the PSNI by a majority of 44. It puts into practice a recommendation made in 1999 by Lord Patten that the local police force should be split evenly between Catholics and Protestants. The result of the vote was 141 to 97.

Man stabbed in Dungannon
A racial motive is being examined for the stabbing in Dungannon of a 25-year-old Portuguese man. Police said that the man was stabbed in the stomach when the victim and a 23-year-old woman were accosted as they got out of a taxi in the Northland Road area at about 2.30am on Sunday morning. The man's injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A Northern Ireland community garden project to improve the lives of isolated and vulnerable older people has been awarded a major grant from the Big Lottery Fund. North Belfast's GROW project will develop three community gardens at sites in Camberwell Terrace Fold, Newington Day Centre and the Waterworks.
