Long Attends Apprenticeship Reception At Stormont
Alliance East Belfast MP Naomi Long attended an apprenticeship reception in the House of Commons that was organised by ADS Group, the aerospace trade association.
The event was in recognition of the role of apprentices in the £24bn UK aerospace industry. She met two apprentices, Owen Thompson and Shannon McVeigh, from Bombardier's factory in East Belfast, as well as representatives of RLC Group, based in Crumlin.
The event, which follows the launch of the joint industry and Government strategy for the future of UK aerospace through the Aerospace Growth Partnership (AGP), celebrated the valuable contribution of apprentices operating in this important wealth-producing sector, and highlighted the advanced technological developments they are working to develop. The keynote at the reception was provided by Skills Minister Matthew Hancock MP.
Naomi Long MP said: "Bombardier is an example of the vibrant and growing UK aerospace industry. At a time when it is particularly difficult for young people to find a job, the sector is providing highly-skilled and rewarding apprenticeships right across the UK.
"It was a delight to meet Owen and Shannon and I was fascinated to learn about their apprenticeships."
