Minister Highlights Financial Capability Issues Facing Consumers
First Minister Rt Hon Peter D Robinson MLA has addressed an event at Skainos centre in east Belfast to promote financial inclusion and highlight financial capability issues facing consumers in the local community.
The aim of the event is to encourage discussion among a range of local representatives on the key issues facing people in East Belfast in relation to managing money and access to financial services.
Speaking at the event organised by the Consumer Council and Housing Rights Service, the First Minister said: "Many households and families across Northern Ireland are worried about making ends meet and what the future may hold.
"It is vital that Government works innovatively with business, community and voluntary sectors, housing providers and consumers to ensure we achieve growth in the economy whilst protecting the most vulnerable in our society. Events such as this are important in highlighting the need for everyone to have access to financial services and to have the necessary skills to manage home finances. I recognise the impact this can have on the quality of life of consumers and on the local economy."
