Kennedy Announces Two Resurfacing Schemes
Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has announced the start of two major resurfacing schemes this week in Portadown and L'Derry.
A £330,000 resurfacing scheme has been announced for the Kernan Loop and M12 in Portadown, Armagh.
The project will take place from Northway to the M12 and will include works on the M12.
The works will be carried out over three weekends in May extending from Friday 10 until Monday 27 May.
The Minister said: "Roads Service has made every effort to programme the necessary works and traffic management arrangements, to minimise inconvenience to the public. Motorists, however, should be aware that some delays can be expected and they should allow additional time when planning journeys.
"Roads Service is aware that there will be some disruption to traffic while these improvements are being made and would ask all road users to exercise care and patience."
Minister Kennedy also announced the start of a £105,000 resurfacing scheme on the Haw Road in L'Derry.
The work is due to begin on Friday 10 May 2013 between the junction at Maydown Road and the entrance to Lisahally Docks.
The scheme is expected to be completed on Friday 17 May 2013, but the Department for Regional Development has said the dates are subject to weather.
The Minister said: "This work is indicative of my Department’s on-going commitment to maintain and upgrade the road infrastructure in the Londonderry area, as we continue to contribute to the economic and social development of the region."

DAERA Minister Confirms Commitment to Deposit Return Scheme
DAERA Minister Andrew Muir has reaffirmed his commitment to introducing a Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) in Northern Ireland. The DRS is designed to encourage recycling by offering a monetary incentive for returning single-use drinks containers. The scheme will cover PET plastic, steel, and aluminium containers ranging from 150ml to 3 litres.
