640 Jobs Saved In B&Q
With over 640 jobs saved in B&Q, and a further 137 jobs saved in Pamela Scott, Deputy Eamonn Maloney TD has said that it was a good day for job retention, particularly in Tallaght, where 90 jobs approximately were saved.
He said: "Saving these jobs was a vindication of both the examiner process and the renegotiation of commercial rents, and made sense in the current economic climate. Retaining jobs is every bit as important as creating new jobs. The additional investment and the negotiated rent reductions will ensure a more realistic overhead expense for the operation of both companies. These businesses are now on a firm financial basis and this gives them great confidence for the future. It also lifts the great stress and worry experienced by the workers of both companies in recent months.
"The struggle to retain jobs is also highlighted by the experience of Xtra-vision which has been placed in receivership. I hope that the receiver will save jobs and ensure that an enterprise capable of competing with cutting edge technology and the downloading revolution will emerge from the receivership process. I call on the state authorities to cooperate with the receiver in all efforts to ensure the survival of the group with the maximum number of jobs saved."
