Public Finance Strategy Launched

A consultation is being launched on a new strategy to help Northern Ireland consumers handle and manage their financial affairs in times of insecurity.

The Financial Capability Strategy for Northern Ireland Consumers was launched today by Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster.

The Minister said: "Financial capability is about equipping consumers with the skills, knowledge and information they need to manage, plan, and take responsibility for their financial affairs.

"Essentially, financial capability is a key life skill that is needed by everyone in our society, irrespective of their age, gender, marital status, or their level of income."

The strategy will seek to reduce money-related stress through enabling the public to improve personal finances and deal with problem debt.

Arlene Foster continued: "The Executive, in making a commitment to develop a Financial Capability Strategy for Northern Ireland, has recognised the significance of this issue, and the contribution that it can make to the quality of life of Northern Ireland’s consumers, their families, and to the local economy in these difficult times."
