Illegal Fuel Waste Dumped At Side Of Road

A lorry abandoned by the side of the road near Castlewellan has been leaking its load of illegal fuel waste onto the roadside since Friday.

The stolen high-sided trailer was dumped on the Dublin Road between Castlewellan and Kilcoo, according to the BBC.

It is understood that the cost to dispose of the material, which could run to tens of thousands of pounds, will fall to Down District Council.

The BBC quote Alliance councillor Patrick Clarke as saying: "The dumping of illegally laundered fuel waste is costing ratepayers thousands of pounds every year by Councils having to remove the waste and these sums are coming straight from the rates of local people."
