Newtownabbey couple suffer burglary ordeal

Police are appealing for information after a man and his wife were injured during a burglary at their Newtownabbey home over the weekend.

Awakened by his house alarm at around 1.30am on Saturday morning, the man was attacked by two men in his front garden when he went to investigate.

A white three door Honda Civic and the family’s own maroon coloured Nissan Almera car were being were being stolen. Both the man, and his wife who had come out to help him, were struck by the vehicles as they were driven from the scene.

The man sustained severe damage to his knee and elbow, required staples to a head wound and stitches to a puncture wound on his side. His wife sustained bruising down one side of her body and a number of broken toes.

Police say the Nissan Almera is still outstanding with the registration number GKZ 6628.

Detectives at Newtownabbey are very keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard any suspicious activity in the area of Ravensdale, off the Manse Road in Newtownabbey, between 12:30 and 1:30am to contact detectives in Newtownabbey on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Body of man found on outskirts of Belfast
The body of a man has been found at a flat in the outskirts of Belfast, it has emerged today. The discovery of the 47-year-old's body was made at the flat in the Rathcoole estate, Newtownabbey, shortly after 9pm on Thursday. The police and ambulance service were immediately called to the scene, however it is not yet known how the man died.

Appeal For Information On Assault In Newtownabbey
PSNI detectives have issued an appeal for information after a report that a man was assaulted in Newtownabbey in the early hours of Saturday, 01 July. Making the appeal, Detective Sergeant McDowell said: "It was reported around 4.05am, that a short time earlier, a man was assaulted by six men in the Glenvarna Drive area.

Arrests & Searches In CIRA Probe
Two men have been arrested following a number of police searches into the Continuity IRA. A 37-year-old man arrested under the Terrorism Act in Newtownabbey on Thursday evening, 29 August, remains in custody this morning. He was taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite for questioning.
