£2.3m Centre A 'Significant Boost To The Economy'

A new £2.3m Innovation Growth Centre with the potential to create 150 jobs has been hailed as a "significant boost to the economy".

Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster welcomed the opening of the new Centre at Omagh Enterprise Company (OEC).

The facility covers 14,000sq ft and has been designed to facilitate businesses wishing to locate in the Omagh area.

Officially opening the Centre, Arlene Foster said: "It is in facilities such as this Innovation Growth Centre that inventive businesses will contribute to supporting economic growth in the Omagh area and across Northern Ireland.

"Importantly, with many talented young people leaving the Omagh area to seek opportunities elsewhere, this initiative gives our brightest minds an environment where they can fulfil their potential here in Northern Ireland."

Cllr Errol Thompson, Chairman, Omagh District Council, said: "While this project is led by Omagh District Council, which has a long history of strong partnership working through other programmes including the Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme and the Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland, during this project’s development and throughout its duration a solid bond has been formed with our partners and with this a strong ethos of cooperation and mutual understanding between all representatives of the partnership."

Professor Fabian Monds, CBE, Chairman of Omagh Enterprise Company said: "The development of this new Innovation Growth Centre complements the existing facilities which now provide a total of 78,000 square feet of space devoted to start-up and growth businesses. The aspiration of the company is to foster and support new and existing businesses in order to grow locally and compete globally. In order to complete this most recent development, the Board is grateful for the funding and support received from our partners for this latest expansion."
