Irish Unemployment At Lowest In Four Years
New figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that unemployment is at its lowest rate in almost four years.
The unemployment rate now stands at 13.7%, a 1.2% fall from last year. 421,737 people received unemployment benefit in May, a drop of 11, 263 for the same month last year.
However, the number of people considered long term unemployed rose to 192,000, an increase of 3,268.
The number of people out of work long-term accounts for 45.5% of the total unemployed.

New figures have revealed official unemployment numbers have dropped 0.2% between February and March. The Central Statistics Office (CSO) publication states the official unemployment rate has fallen from 6.6% to 6.4%, and from 8.3% compared with March last year.

UK employment total rises by 300,000
Labour market statistics released today show the number of people in work is up by 300,000 over the last year. This month's Labour Force survey shows employment growing and unemployment on a downward trend. The number of people in work increased by 28,000 this quarter and is more than 300,000 higher than a year ago – so topping 28.2 million people.

Unemployment Rate Decreases
Figures released today for the period May - July 2013 show that the Northern Ireland unemployment rate decreased by 0.9 percentage points over the quarter to 6.9%. More recent figures for August 2013 show that the number of unemployment benefit claimants decreased by 300 over the month.
