Belfast jobs fair offers career 'gems'
Around 1,500 people have attended the second Belfast GEMS JobsFair, which took place at the Waterfront Hall on 20 May.
The event, which offered the opportunity to ‘change your life in just one day’ is targeted at offering job opportunities to suit school leavers, women returners and the long-term unemployed, as well as individuals considering a career change.
The MM Group exhibited over 100 job opportunities at the show, making them the largest exhibitor of job opportunities in the private sector. Other jobs on offer included opportunities in retail, catering, information communication technology and the civil service. There were a wide range of jobs available at every entry level and the majority of vocational skills areas were represented.
Cllr Michael Browne, Chair of Belfast City Council’s Economic Development Sub-Committee, officially opened the event, and said: “This event will provide an opportunity for all of the Companies who are exhibiting to employ the types of skills they need from local people in the surrounding communities. With so many jobs on offer, individuals will be given the chance to access and apply to a wide and varied range of employment opportunities."
Belfast GEMS JobsFair is supported by Belfast Regeneration Office through the Department for Employment and Learning, Belfast City Council, Laganside Corporation, HBOS (Formerly Halifax Direct), South Belfast Partnership Board, East Belfast Partnership Board and Inland Revenue.
