PSNI Under Fire At West Belfast Bonfire
Eight PSNI officers have suffered injuries after trouble broke out at an 'anti-internment' bonfire in west Belfast last night.
Eight people were arrested in the Divis Street area after police came under fire from crowds throwing paint bombs, bottles and masonry.
Two officers were admitted to hospital to be treated for head injuries.
SDLP Lower Falls Cllr Colin Keenan condemned the trouble.
He said: "For the last number of weeks local people and tourists passing by have been the subject of both verbal and physical assaults.
"In addition, much damage has been caused to local resident’s property, with many of the residents I spoke to telling me that they have lived in fear during this August period, which they shouldn't have to be in this day and age- especially in their own homes.
"That's why I utterly condemn the actions of those who have organised this bonfire and appeal to them to be more mindful and respectful of the communities they live in.
"Anti-social elements will not be allowed to destroy this community which so many of us have worked hard to build."

Over 800 young people from schools in Lisburn and Castlereagh attended a hard-hitting road safety message at the PSNI Road Safe Roadshow on 19 November. The roadshow, supported by AXA Insurance and the Northern Ireland Road Safety Partnership, aims to educate young drivers about the dangers of irresponsible driving.
