Burning Pallets Placed On L'Derry Road
Police have been called to the Galliagh area of L'Derry after burning pallets were placed across a road at Collon Lane.
The pallets were discovered by officers who arrived in the area shortly after 22:00.
Community representatives liaised with the police.
A number of pallets were removed and a can of petrol was also seized.
Company Fined £1,000 For Vehicle Offence
A company based in County L'Derry, has been fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £16 court costs and £15 offender levy at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court on 12 August 2013.
The charges relate to an investigation by the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) into a vehicle used by Bradmount Ltd, of 14 Desertmartin Road, Moneymore.
The company was fined for using a vehicle in a dangerous condition and the driver of the vehicle, 32-year-old Kevin Crozier of Finnobar, Coagh, was awarded three penalty points.
On 11 December 2012, DVA Enforcement Officers directed a two axle goods vehicle over the Department’s weighbridge in Cookstown.
It was found to be overweight and was prohibited from moving until the load had been adjusted to the legal limits.
Scrap Dealer Fined For Waste Offence
A Newtownabbey man has been fined at Belfast Magistrates' Court for waste management offences.
Arthur Magill (47) of Sallybush Road, was fined £400 after officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) investigated a site owned by him in August 2011.
A substantial quantity of scrap metal was found deposited, along with concrete, plastics and wood.
Mr Magill pleaded guilty to one charge of keeping controlled waste without holding the necessary waste management licence.
Five Convicted Of Benefit Fraud
Five people have been convicted at Belfast Magistrates’ Court for claiming benefits they were not entitled to.
22-year-old Ryan Longman of Cosgrave Heights, Belfast, claimed Jobseekers' Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £2,293, despite having worked.
He was fined £400 and ordered to pay court costs of £37.
James McLaughlin, 30, of Clonfadden Crescent, Belfast, claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £15,219 while failing to declare employment.
He was given 150 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £55.
35-year-old Bryan Brady of New Barnsley Park, Belfast, claimed Jobseekers Allowance and Housing Benefit totalling £5,550 while failing to declare employment.
He was given a 120 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £115.
23-year-old Victoria Robinson of Norglen Road, Belfast was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Income Support totalling £263.
Christopher Ross, 24, of Glenbank Drive, Belfast was fined £250 and ordered to pay court costs of £19 for wrongful encashment of Income Support totalling £249.
All are also required to repay any outstanding money they wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Benefit Frauds Face Court Sanctions
Fraudsters are being made to pay the price for claiming a variety of benefits they were not entitled to. A total of 14 people were convicted at Belfast Magistrates' court yesterday with Joanne McBride (35) of Portallo Street, Belfast claiming Income Support totalling £4,451 while failing to declare she was working.

Colin McGookin (52) of Sheringhurst Park, Belfast claimed Income Support, Incapacity Benefit and Disability Living Allowance totalling £25,168 while failing to declare employment.

A dozen people have been caught fiddling the benefits' system in Northern Ireland. All have been identified on the Department of Social Development's (DSD) own website - a new development - and have had their details circulated to the local media in each of the areas concerned.
