L'Derry To Host Jobs Fair

L'Derry is to host a major Jobs Fair and Advice Forum on 11 September 2013.

The fair, which will take place in the Millennium Forum between 10am and 4pm, has been organised by the Department for Employment and Learning, in conjunction with Derry City Council, CultureTECH and EURES.

Speaking ahead of the event, Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry said: "I welcome my Department's association with this Jobs Fair and Advice Forum which brings employers, support organisations and jobseekers together under one roof. Clearly this event demonstrates that, despite the current economic climate, employers are still looking to recruit both seasonal and permanent staff and that there are employment opportunities for jobseekers."

A range of vacancies will be available, with a particular emphasis on Information Technology (IT), Media and Creative Industries in support of Digital Derry.

Advice and guidance will also be available on a range of training and re-skilling opportunities.

Minister Farry added: "A range of support organisations, for example my Department's Careers Service and Employment Service, will also be present to provide individuals with information, advice and guidance on a range of training and employment schemes that can assist individuals progress towards work and better employment prospects, equipping them with the skills to compete in the labour market and meet the needs of employers both now and in the future."

1,100 Jobs Available At Belfast Fair
Over 1,100 vacancies are said to be on offer at the latest jobs fair, which opened this morning. Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry opened the fair this morning at Belfast’s Europa Hotel. It will run from 10:00 to 18:00. 56 employers have confirmed their attendance and it is thought that over 1,100 vacancies will be on offer.

New measures to protect work seekers and employers
New legislation to strengthen the protections for work seekers and employers using the recruitment industry has been laid before Parliament. The legislation's main purpose is to provide powers of entry to and inspection of employment agencies and businesses to ascertain compliance with regulations governing such bodies.
