Police Investigate Fourth Dromore Death

Detectives investigating the deaths of three women in Dromore, Co Down, have said they are now looking at the circumstances surrounding the death of a fourth woman in the area.

Margaret (Peggy) Stronge, who was 58, was found at Moss Lane on 10 July 1982.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Harkness said his officers had advised the Stronge family of the development.

Mr Harkness explained: "I believe it is an appropriate and necessary step, given our current understanding of events in the town.

"We will progress the review as quickly as possible. I would like to repeat my appeal to the community in Dromore for information about all these deaths.

"My officers are keen to speak with anyone who may have any information which could assist our inquiries."

Ms Stronge's death is to be reviewed "as part of the overall investigation" into the deaths of three other women in the town.

Michelle Bickerstaff, 47, was found dead in April last year, and 50-year-old Margaret Weise died in August 2007.

Investigations are continuing into the death of 52-year-old Lily McKee who died in December 2002.

A 66-year-old man, named as Leslie Ross, appeared before Armagh Magistrates' Court last Friday and is charged with murdering Ms Bickerstaff and Ms Weise.

He was remanded in custody after bail was refused, and is expected to appear at Banbridge Magistrates' Court via videolink on 19 September.

Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives on 028 3751 7329 from 9am to 10pm Monday-Friday.

Alternatively, a message can be left outside these hours or people can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
