Rock Shopfitting Services Facing Threat Of Closure
SDLP Foyle MLA, Colum Eastwood, has met with employees from Rock Shopfitting Services.
Rock, who employ more than 100 workers in the greater North West, are facing the threat of closure after the withdrawal of their main contract from Tesco.
The firm claims that Tesco have actively engaged in recruiting companies from outside of Ireland to refit their stores and implement range changes.
Mr Eastwood commented: "I have now had the opportunity to meet with Rock and its employees a number of times since the withdrawal of their main contract from Tesco.
"I would appeal to Tesco to abide by their own stated objectives of employing local companies where feasible. These are 100 local employees who have served the needs of Tesco over a long period.
"Corporate responsibility is ultimately the understanding that we live in a society as well as an economy. True value stems from the health of this interwoven relationship.
"I would encourage Tesco to fulfil their responsibly to this society, through which they gain great benefit, and to reassess a decision which may deprive these workers of earning a living."

Over 700 Tesco drivers at distribution hubs in Belfast and Doncaster are to ballot for strike action next week over a pay dispute. The firm announced a pay offer of 0 per cent for 2015 and 1.5 per cent for 2016. The strike vote follows a 91 per cent rejection of the pay offer across the three sites.
