Delegation Discuss The Future Of Post-Primary Education
A DUP delegation has met with the Chairman of the Southern Education and Library Board (SELB), Mr Plunkett Campbell and Mr Ronnie McVeigh, Vice Chair of the Board's Advisory Committee and discussed the future of post-primary education provision in the Craigavon area.
The delegation included DUP Upper Bann MP David Simpson, MLAs Sydney Anderson and Stephen Moutray, Councillor Carla Lockhart and Mervyn Storey, Chairman of the Assembly's Education Committee.
Speaking following the meeting, Upper Bann MLA Stephen Moutray said: "We welcomed the opportunity to meet with the Chairman of the Board and the Vice Chair of the Advisory Committee and to voice our concerns over the future of the Dickson plan in Craigavon and Tandragee. This issue will not go away as it is of huge importance to parents in this area who are concerned about the future of education provision and are strongly supportive of the system that is currently in place. All attempts to change this will be met with strong public opposition.
"During the meeting we had a frank and open discussion and we expressed our concerns around the how the Board had handled the issue thus far. We have submitted a number of questions to the Board and look forward to receiving the answers to them. Once we have these we will be requesting another meeting and will continue to make the case for the retention of the Dickson plan."

15 Expressions Of Interest In Shared Education Campuses Programme
News that 15 expressions of interest have been lodged with the Department under the Shared Education Campuses Programme has been welcomed by Education Minister John O'Dowd. The Minister launched the Shared Education Campuses Programme in January, with a deadline of 31 March for receipt for expressions of interest.

Commissioners take over SEELB
Four commissioners are to take over the responsibility of the South Eastern Education and Library Board, after the original board failed to meet a deadline implementing school cuts. The SEELB was given a strict deadline of 6pm yesterday to approve cost cutting measures which would affect special needs schools in the board area.

Rea re-elected Chairman of NI Policing Board
The Northern Ireland Policing Board has announced the re-election of Sir Desmond Rea as Chairman and the election of Barry Gilligan as the Board’s Vice Chairman. The new Policing Board came into effect on April 1 and as their first duty was required to elect a Chair and Vice Chair.
