L'Derry Shooting - Man Arrested
A man who was at the centre of a cross-border manhunt following a shooting in L'Derry last week has been arrested.
Kieran McLaughlin was captured by the PSNI following a six-day operation that ended at Fern Park in the Galliagh area of the city.
Mr McLaughlin had been spotted earlier in the night in Donegal driving a silver car and was followed by gardaí until he crossed the border, whereupon the PSNI continued to tail him.
Mr McLaughlin abandoned the car in Galliagh before stealing another vehicle. Specialist officers then captured and arrested him.
The 58-year-old is wanted on suspicion of the murder of 35-year-old Barry McCrory last Thursday morning at the victim's flat near Shipquay Street.
Emergency crews were called to the scene and the area was cordoned off.
SDLP MLA for Foyle Pat Ramsey said said he was in the vicinity and had heard the shots.
"This is an appalling and disgraceful incident," he said.
"Once again there are those in our community who are intent on destroying the unity of purpose that can only benefit everyone, especially our young people.
"My condolences and sympathies are with the family of the victim at this time. I would urge anyone with any information about this incident to contact the PSNI."
