NI Construction Falls

Northern Ireland's construction industry continues its decline, following a drop of 5.4% in total output in second quarter of 2013 compared to the first quarter, and a drop of 5.1% compared to the same period in 2012.

The Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) published the latest edition of the Northern Ireland Construction Bulletin today.

The latest quarterly decrease follows two successive quarters of positive growth in construction output.

The value of construction output in the second quarter of this year was estimated to be £452m, the lowest quarterly value reported in the current series.

The level of output reported over the period is about 40% lower than the levels of output reported in the quarters before the downturn in 2007.

All the sub-sectors of construction experienced a decrease in over the period.

The message was different across the Irish Sea, however. In the second quarter of 2013, Great Britain experienced positive growth, with overall construction output increasing by 2.0% compared to the previous quarter.
