Belfast Council Launches Business Development Programme
Local manufacturers are being offered help with reducing costs and increasing profits through a new business development programme funded by Belfast City Council.
The Manufacturing Efficiency Programme is open to small and medium-sized companies in the city from the manufacturing subsectors.
The programme is funded by Belfast City Council and Lisburn City Council in partnership with Invest Northern Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund.
The free programme will include one-to-one mentoring from industry experts, tailored workshops and a baseline assessment of each business. Topics will be covered such as marketing your business; product development, innovation and CE marking; process and product costing; workspace layout and value stream analysis and health and safety in the workplace.
The programme will run until March 2014 with applications closing on 1 November.
The programme is open to 12 businesses - six from the Belfast City Council area and six from the Lisburn City Council area.

A number of young people from Belfast could soon be starting up their own enterprises after taking part in a business programme, funded by Belfast City Council. The 20 were at the City Hall today for a special awards' ceremony after completing the Enterprise Skills for Youth Programme.

Playgrounds Continue To Be Improved Across Belfast
Playgrounds across Belfast are to continue to be improved with Belfast City Council setting a capital budget of £580,000 for its Playground Improvement Programme. Sites marked for improvement include Cavehill Adventurous and Ormeau 2000 playgrounds (Park Road), along with the recent completion of the new build at Vere Foster.

Belfast Lord Mayor Welcomes Progress On Avoniel Redevelopment
Belfast Lord Mayor, Councillor Kate Nicholl, has welcomed the progress being made on the £8 million redevelopment of Avoniel, which is due to reopen in October. The transformation of the former Avoniel Leisure Centre site aims to address the lack of 3G pitches in the area, while also providing flexible indoor space for the community.

Primark Donates £500,000 To Support Businesses Affected By Fire
Retailer Primark is donating £500,000 to Belfast City Council's City Recovery Investment Fund. The fund is being set up after a number of businesses have been severely affected by the fire at the Bank Buildings which happened over three weeks ago. A cordon remains in place and 14 firms have been closed for up to four months.
