Crepe Weavers Redevelopment Granted Planning Permission

Environment minister Mark H Durkan has approved a major redevelopment plan for a former textiles factory in Newtownards, Co Down.

Outline planning permission has been granted for the redevelopment of the derelict Crepe Weavers factory, which will see the site transformed to include a hotel, two nursing homes, a health centre, industrial and business units and up to 100 homes.

It is understood that the planning permission was only granted on the condition that industrial units formed a key aspect of the scheme.

Durkan commented that the 25-acre site at Comber Road, Newtownards, had the potential to accommodate as many jobs as the factory once supported at its peak and represented the best opportunity to improve the appearance of the area.
