£250m Children's Hospital For Belfast
A new children's hospital is to built in Belfast.
The £250m facility will replace the existing hospital on the Royal site in the city, Northern Ireland Finance Minister Simon Hamilton has revealed.
The announcement was made as part of a reallocation of unspent funds, mostly from the stalled A5 road project.
A total of £52m has been allocated by the Department of Health, with £15.5m of which is going towards the new facility.
The centre is scheduled to be completed by 2020 or 2021, with building work commencing as early as next year.
Other health projects allocated money include:
£144k Roads Scheme For Doagh
Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has announced the start of a £144,000 major resurfacing scheme on Mill Road/Main Street, Doagh.
Work will commence on Wednesday 30 October between Ballymena Road and Kilbride Road.
To help minimise any inconvenience to the travelling public and local businesses the majority of this work is programmed to be completed during the Halloween school holiday and at weekends. Lane closures will operate during the periods: Tuesday 5 November to Friday 8 November; Monday 11 November to Friday 15 November and Monday 18 November to Friday 22 November.
Full closures of Mill Road/Main Street will be in place from Wednesday 30 October to Monday 4 November, from Saturday 9 November to Sunday 10 November and from Saturday 16 November to Sunday 17 November. Traffic will be diverted via Main Street - Ballyclare Road - Rashee Road - Cogry Road - Bridge Road - Mill Road.
The scheme is expected to be completed on 22 November 2013.
The Minister said: "This scheme will deliver important improvements to this busy road and will increase the life of the road, greatly improving the strength and ride quality of the carriageway."
Man Released Over Belfast Shooting
A man who was arrested in connection with a shooting in west Belfast has been released on bail, pending further inquiries.
The man, 40, was detained on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent.
The victim was a 19-year-old man. He was shot in the buttock by two masked men at New Barnsley Gardens, at around 2.30pm and was taken to hospital to receive treatment, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The two men were said to be wearing dark clothing and made off in the direction of Vere Foster Walk.
Police have asked for anyone with information to contact CID in Grosvenor Road Police Station on 0845 600 8000, or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

- £1m for a paediatric centre of excellence at Daisy Hill Hospital in Newry
- £1m for a paediatric ward and ambulatory care unit at Craigavon Area Hospital
- £900,000 to fund the co-location of the emergency department and GP out of hours at Lagan Valley Hospital
- £900,000 for two MRI scanners in the Southern Health and Social Care Trust
- £3m for a new logistics and support centre for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service.
