New Chronic Disease Research Facility At Altnagelvin

A £11.5 million research centre at Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry could create up to 50 new jobs.

The new centre will focus on the management of chronic diseases, alongside heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

The facility will be a collaborative project between the University of Ulster and the Western Health and Social Care Trust.

Belfast IT Firm Secure Contracts Worth £7m

Contracts worth £7 million have been won by Belfast-based Novosco.

Operating from Northern Ireland Science Park in the Titanic Quarter, the IT firm secured three contracts, one with a global financial services firm, a retail chain and a recruitment company.

Founded in 2007 with the merger of two local IT firms, Novosco now employs 88 people, with offices in Dublin and Birmingham, in addition to its Belfast base.

It provides cloud computing and IT infrastructure services, including infrastructure optimisation, disaster recovery, managed and connectivity services.

Turner Prize Exhibition To Open In L'Derry

The Turner Prize exhibition, one of the world's most prestigious art events - will open in Londonderry later.

Being held as part of the city's year as the UK City of Culture, the exhibition will be held at the old barracks in Ebrington.

It also marks the first time the Turner Prize has been held outside England in its 29 year history.

Four artists are in contention for the award. The winner will receive £25,000 and the result will be announced on 2 December.

Tobacco Firm Discriminated Against Worker On Grounds Of Age
A tobacco firm discriminated against a 66-year-old man, who worked for Gallaher's factory in Ballymena for 27 years, by refusing to offer him the same redundancy as younger employees, a tribunal has found. Bernard Barlow was excluded from the firm's enhanced severance package when its factory in Ballymena closed.

Power Restored To Thousands Of Customers In Co Antrim
Power has been restored to several thousand Northern Ireland Electricity customers in Co Antrim. An equipment fault on a high voltage transmission line caused the outage at around 9.40pm on Wednesday, 20 July, according to NIE Networks. However, power was restored by 10.14pm.
