Cigarettes stolen in daylight raid

Police are appealing for information following a robbery in Newtownabbey yesterday.

The incident occurred at around lunchtime when a man stepped in front of a delivery van at Corrs corner forcing the driver to stop.

He then boarded the van and ordered the driver to proceed to the Ballyearl Road in Glengormley.

When they arrived a silver vehicle, which had been following behind pulled up alongside and two other men jumped out. They then unloaded a substantial quantity of cigarettes from the van worth an estimated £5,000.

The robbers then tied the driver up in the back of the van before escaping.

Two of the men are described as being aged between 25-30 years of age. One was 5’ 10” tall, of medium build, thin-faced and was wearing a black-padded jacket, jeans and a dark-coloured baseball cap.

The other was 5’ 4” tall, of stocky build, and had fair hair which was shaved and balding on top. He was wearing a light-grey top and round–framed sunglasses.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 028 9065 0222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
