VSL Provides Jobs For Offenders Sentenced To Community Service Orders
Justice Minister David Ford has visited a joinery and furniture refurbishment workshop which provides work for offenders sentenced to community service orders.
Voluntary Services Lisburn (VSL) is a charitable organisation which aims to improve job opportunities for those on community service orders through training and skills development in restoration and refurbishment of second hand furniture.
Offenders work alongside skilled project workers in the workshop which has received funding support from the Department of Justice through the Probation Board and the Lisburn Policing Service Community Partnership.
Mr Ford said: "Voluntary Services Lisburn is a key partner of the Probation Board and the Lisburn PCSP, providing almost 100 placements in the last two years for offenders sentenced to community service orders. This has been a good opportunity to see at first hand the work being undertaken by an organisation dedicated to helping those in the community.
"Offenders are expertly trained and can obtain qualifications and can look to new Job opportunities, while proceeds of sales go back into helping those in need within the community."
