£6.1m Invested In Omagh
£6.1m is to be invested in the market town of Omagh in County Tyrone.
The Roads Service is to invest in road improvement and maintenance schemes in the Omagh Council.
Speaking ahead of yesterday evening’s meeting between Roads Service and Omagh Council, Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy said: "A wide range of road improvement and maintenance schemes are planned or already complete in the Omagh Council area.
"As well as allowing for an update on current schemes, the autumn round of Council meetings is a timely opportunity for Councils to discuss potential schemes and priorities."
Projects include the planned resurfacing of stretches on the A5 Doogary Road at Camowen Road, the A5 Doogary Road from Church Road to Crannoge Road, the A505 Killyclogher Road from Arleston Road towards Cookstown, the Dublin Road/ Campsie Road junction in Omagh, the C614 Gortnagarn Road, Omagh and the recently commenced resurfacing stretches of the C626 Loughmacrory Road and B46 Creggan Road.
The resurfacing of a one kilometre stretch of the A5 Beltany Road at West Road is planned to commence later this month.
Network Development Manager Des McFarlane said: "As well as excellent progress on the resurfacing programme, I am pleased to note the recent completed sightline improvements on the B50 Gillygooly Road adjacent to primary school, provision of a pedestrian refuge island at Gortrush and lane widening at Railway Link on the A5 Great Northern Road. Beragh Bridge has been widened to provide a footway connection and the substandard concrete parapets on the Stone Bridge at Gortnagarn have been replaced. A new roadside parking lay-by has also been provided on Brook Street.
"Further programmed safety schemes include a right turning lane on the A505 Killyclogher Road at the Loughmacrory junction, a collision remedial scheme to provide a right turning lane on the A32 Clanabogan Road at the Brookmount Road junction. Traffic calming is planned for Loughmacrory with the Safer Routes to School programme rollout continuing with a series of planned upgrades at Omagh County Primary and St Conor’s Primary School, Omagh."

Local roads get record £80m spend
A record £80 million will be spent on structural roads maintenance this year across Northern Ireland. The figure was revealed by Deputy Divisional Roads Manager, Tom McCourt as he presented DRD Roads Service’s autumn report to Newtownabbey Borough Council.
