Mobile Phone Driving Campaign Launched

Over 5,000 drivers in Northern Ireland have been issued with a fixed penalty notice for using a mobile phone while driving last year.

A campaign has been launched by road safety charity Brake to coincide with Road Safety Week.

Six in 10 children in the region have been driven in a vehicle by an adult using a mobile phone, the charity said.

"Distraction reduces hazard perception and increases reaction times in a similar way to drink-driving, making drivers much more likely to cause deaths and injuries," it added.
