Crimestoppers Praised By Justice Minister
Almost £117,000 worth of drugs have been seized, 76 people arrested and charged and 2,400 pieces of actionable information passed to the PSNI between April 2012 and March 2013 as a result of the charity Crimestoppers, according to Justice Minister David Ford.
Speaking at the annual fundraising quiz for the charity, the Minister praised the organisation for the support they provide to the PSNI in tackling crime.
David Ford said: "We should not underestimate the contribution Crimestoppers makes to tackling crime in Northern Ireland. The charity plays an incredibly important role in enabling members of the public to report crime anonymously.
"Each year those calls result in taking dangerous weapons and drugs off our streets and putting criminals before the courts.
"Northern Ireland is a relatively safe place to live, but in recent days and weeks we have seen some horrific crimes, including shootings and attempted bombings. The people that are inflicting pain and fear on our community deserve no protection. I encourage the public to report what they know to PSNI or Crimestoppers"

Drugs Seized After Car Stopped On M2 Motorway
A 43-year-old man has been arrested and £75,000 worth of Class B controlled drugs seized after the PSNI's Auto Crime Team stopped a vehicle on the M2 Motorway. Detectives from the Organised Crime Unit conducted a follow-up search of a property in the Newtownabbey area.

McGurk's Bar Bomb: Man Released
A 75-year-old man arrested in relation to a bomb in a north Belfast pub in which 15 people were killed has been released unconditionally. The bomb attack in McGurk's bar in 1971 became one of the worst atrocities carried out during the Troubles. The UVF claimed responsibility for the attack and one man was convicted for all 15 murders in 1978.
