£300k Funding Package For Belfast Communities
Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has unveiled a £300,000 funding package for events and community activities in Belfast.
The Belfast City Centre Event and Community Activity Grant schemes aim to encourage arts, cultural and community-based events in Belfast City Centre, which will take place between April 2014 and March 2015.
Commenting on the initiative, Minister McCausland said: "Planned events bring huge numbers of visitors to our cities and create opportunities for wide ranging and sustainable social and economic benefits.
"I am delighted to announce a further year's funding of £250,000 in support of the Belfast City Centre Event Grant scheme and a further £50,000 to support the Community Activity Grant scheme for 2014/15."
He continued: "My Department is committed to creating a vibrant and exciting Belfast City Centre and these grants make an important contribution in encouraging and supporting organisations to produce arts, cultural and community based events in the city's public open spaces.
"Events create a lively and welcoming atmosphere that benefits the local community, local businesses and tourists, and raises the profile of Belfast both nationally and internationally."
The application process for next year's Events and Community Activity Grants funding will open on Monday 2 December. The closing date for applications is Friday 17 January 2014 at 2pm.
