US Consulate Issues Safety Advice To Americans In Belfast

The American consulate in Belfast has issued safety advice to US citizens in or visiting the city, warning them to "avoid suspicious activity, vehicles or packages".

It follows the partial explosion of a bomb left at the entrance to an underground car park in Belfast city centre on Sunday night.

The US Consulate General in Belfast urged Americans to stay clear of areas where demonstrations are taking place, and "exercise caution in the vicinity of any parades or protests".

The statement from the US Consulate highlighted that the PSNI "continue to assess the threat of terrorism in Northern Ireland to be severe."
