Victims And Survivors Chairperson Appointed

Peter Gay has been announced as Chairperson of the body responsible for assisting victims of the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

The First Minister and deputy First Minister announced the appointment to the Board of the Victims and Survivors Service today.

Ministers also announced the appointment of Bertha McDougall, Richard Solomon and Oliver Wilkinson as Board members.

First Minister Peter Robinson said: "We are pleased to announce the appointment of the Chair and members to the Board of the Victims and Survivors Service.

"The Victims and Survivors Service provides vital support services, identifying specific needs and directing funding at both an individual and group level."

Peter Gay has been a self employed consultant since 2006. He has been Chair of the Cedar Foundation since 2008 and UK Chair of Investing in Volunteers since 2010.

Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness said: "With over £50m committed to the Victims Support Programme over the current budget period, the Board has a crucial role in overseeing and ensuring a high standard of service which victims and survivors expect but more importantly deserve."

£36m For Victims' Strategy

New Victims And Survivors Funding Announced
A new funding initiative worth in excess of £30 million has been announced for victims and survivors, with the Victims and Survivors Service calling for applicants to two new schemes. Organisations working with or representing victims and survivors are being invited to apply for funding to the Victims Support Programme 2017-2020 worth £18.

New Regional Trauma Network To Be Established In NI
A new Regional Trauma Network is to be established in Northern Ireland, Health Minister Robin Swann has announced. A Regional Trauma Network (RTN) was a commitment in the Stormont House Agreement in recognition of the need for a comprehensive trauma service for victims and survivors.
