NI Peer Faces Suspension
A Northern Irish peer is facing suspension from the House of Lords after undercover reporters found he had offered to help set up an all-party parliamentary group for payment.
The Committee for Privileges and Conduct has recommended that Lord Laird should face a four-month suspension after being investigated by the Sunday Times and the BBC Panorama programme.
Lord Laird, a former Ulster Unionist, is also reported to have told reporters from the Panorama that he would be able to set up an all-party group on Fiji.
Ulster Unionist Party leader Mike Nesbitt said of the report: "This is a severe sanction, reflecting a very serious lapse in judgement by Lord Laird.
"When the news first broke in June, the Ulster Unionist Party moved swiftly to remove the party whip. This remains the case.
"The party leadership will take the necessary time to read and reflect on the report from the House of Lords Committee for Privileges and Conduct, before discussing what happens when the four month sanction period has elapsed."

Former UUP MP dies aged 81
Former Ulster Unionist MP Cecil Walker has died today after suffering a heart attack. The MP for north Belfast between 1983 and 2001, Sir Cecil lost his seat to the DUP's Nigel Dodds.
