Irish Water To Be Subject To Freedom Of Information Legislation

Labour TD Ann Phelan has welcomed news that Irish Water will be subject to Freedom of Information legislation following confirmation to this effect by Minister Brendan Howlin.

She said: "I welcome confirmation from my colleague, the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform Brendan Howlin, that certain limitations placed on the Freedom of Information Act by Fianna Faíl in 2003 are to be lifted.

"As Irish Water is providing a monopoly service, it will now be included under the provisions of FOI Act, while some areas of CIE may also be included.

"The FOI amending legislation is still being processed through the Oireachtas however, it is the Minister’s intention to ensure that Irish Water be contained within the remit of this Bill."
