Poleglass Device 'A Hoax'

A suspicious object found during a security alert in Poleglass, west Belfast, has turned out to be a hoax, police have said.

Army bomb experts examined the object, which was found in the Bell Steel Road area, on Tuesday evening.

The road was closed for a period but has since reopened.

Man Robs Petrol Station With Knife

A man has robbed a petrol station in the Church Street area of Magherafelt, County Londonderry, armed with a knife.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at about 20:00 when the robber entered the premises and demanded money.

He made off with a sum of money and is believed to have moved in the direction of the town centre.

The robber is described as being approximately 5'10" tall and of slim build. He was wearing a grey-hooded top, black trousers, black gloves and black footwear.

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact CID in Magherafelt Police Station.

Man Jailed For Benefit Fraud

A 22-year-old man has been sentenced to two months in prison for the wrongful encashment of Jobseekers' Allowance totaling £205.

Gerard Doyle of Verner Street, Belfast, was also ordered to pay court costs of £76 at Belfast Magistrates' Court.

He is required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.

Absconded Prisoner Recaptured

A prisoner from England who was serving a life sentence has been recaptured after absconding in County Fermanagh.

The man had been on a licensed home visit to an ill relative in Enniskillen. He was later arrested by local police.

Off licence robbed in south Belfast
A man armed with a handgun has robbed an off-licence in the University Road area of south Belfast. Shortly after 7pm, a man entered the premises and produced a handgun and demanded money from the till. The man made off with an undisclosed sum of money.

Man Arrested In Connection With Dromara Assault
A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a report of an assault at licenced premises at the Rathfriland Road area of Dromara. Detective Inspector Bell said: "Shortly before 10:10pm on Friday 15th December, it was reported that an altercation occurred at a bar in the area following three men refused entry to the premises.

Man Dies In Portadown Road Crash
An 18-year-old man has died following a collision in Portadown. The crash happened on the Dungannon Road between midnight and 12.30am on Wednesday, 08 November. The road has been re-opened. Elsewhere, a man, aged in his 30's, has died in a road collision in Co Antrim.

Man Released On Bail Over Lurgan Murder
A man arrested in connection with a murder in Lurgan on Sunday, 06 August, has been released on bail pending further enquiries. The body of a man, aged 45, was discovered at a flat on Victoria Street. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Man Shot In County Down
A 28-year-old man has been shot in the leg in a gun attack in County Down. The man was getting out of his car at the Quays in Killyleagh at about 1.00am on Wednesday morning when a man approached him and shot him. The man is recovering in hospital where his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
