Warning Issued Over 'Laughing Gas'

Police in Strabane, County Tyrone, have issued a warning over the misuse of so-called 'laughing gas', following news it is being used for recreational purposes.

Officers say a parent in Strabane discovered their child was buying canisters online to be used at a party.

Police said this was the first report they have received that the gas is being used in this way.

Nitrous oxide is used in medicine and dental practice as an anaesthetic, but is often misused due to its 'euphoric' side effects.

The drug and alcohol awareness group Divert, based in County L'Derry, have said that people are unaware of the dangerous consequences of using nitrous oxide in this way.
