Belfast's Crown Bar Reopens
The Crown Bar in Belfast has reopened after owners were able to renew its licence to sell alcohol.
It emerged on 10 January that the Crown, one of Belfast's most iconic pubs and a favourite spot for tourists, had failed to renew its licence after it expired in November 2012.
However, the campaign group Pubs of Ulster announced yesterday that the Great Victoria Street bar could reopen and that the licensing issue had been resolved.
The pub is owned by the National Trust and run by Mitchells and Butlers, who are based in Birmingham.
A statement from pubs of Ulster said: "We welcome the news that the Crown Bar licensing issue was positively resolved at 4.30pm this afternoon.
"This has no doubt been a difficult week for one of our most iconic pubs but we are glad to see that common sense has prevailed and the licence to sell alcohol has been granted. We hope the other pubs that have closed this week as a result of licensing issues will be given the same treatment and are dealt with as swiftly as possible."
