Man Fined For Dumping Tyres At Bonfire Site

A man has been fined for unauthorised waste tyre disposal after pulling up a lorry beside a bonfire in north Belfast and dumping a quantity of tyres.

36-year-old Gavin Anderson of Loranville, Larne, was fined £400 at Belfast Magistrates' Court today for unauthorised waste activities.

Mr Anderson was the driver of a curtain-sided lorry which, on 4 June 2013, was observed parked beside a bonfire site located in the Mount Vernon Estate.

Following an investigation by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency, Mr Anderson pleaded guilty on two counts under the Waste and Contaminated Land (NI) Order 1997 and was fined £200 on each count.
