Four men arrested following discovery of van bomb

Two further men have been arrested following the discovery of a van bomb in Londonderry on Sunday.

The men were arrested by gardai in Buncrana, Co Donegal and are currently being questioned.

It follows the earlier arrests of two men, aged 24 and 33, in Londonderry this morning.

The device, which contained 1,200lbs of explosives, was found in a van which was observed being driven suspiciously along the Foyle Bridge at around 6.15am yesterday morning.

It was later found abandoned on the nearby Clooney Road.

Army technical experts said it was primed and ready for detonation.

Police confirmed that the bomb was the largest ever found in the UK, even bigger than the Omagh bomb in 1998.

Dissident republicans are thought to be behind the device.
