New Bus Route Approved For Derry
Environment Minister Mark H Durkan has said a new bus route for Derry has been approved.
The new route will allow Translink (Ulsterbus) to operate a bus service to the Culmore Point area in the city.
Currently, there is a bus service provided by the Londonderry & Lough Swilly Railway Company, but the new Translink route will offer additional services to those using public transport.
Commenting, Minister Durkan said: "I welcome the news that my department has given approval for this new service which I have no doubt will be warmly received by the people of Culmore – who for years have campaigned for an enhanced bus service.
"It will bring a regular bus service to a wider area and provide for fuller coverage of the route throughout the day, improving the availability of public transport to the residents."
Manhole Cover Thefts Hits City
The PSNI have said they are investigating a number of manhole cover thefts in the east Belfast area.
All of the thefts are understood to have taken place within the last 10 days and occurred in the Knockbracken Road, Peartree Hill and Ballymaconnaghy Road areas.
In a statement, police said that removing manhole covers is not only breaking the law, but is also "extremely dangerous" for other road users.
A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "We would ask anyone who sees anyone appearing to 'work' at manholes to take a quick look and see if the proper Road Service signage has been set up around the works.
"If not, please report that activity to police immediately. The number is 0845 600 8000."
Appeal Following Attempted Hijackings
Police are appealing for information after officers received reports of two attempted car hijackings.
The incidents are said to have occurred in the early hours of Wednesday (29 January).
Both incidents occurred in the York Street area and involved a number of youths who tried to gain access to the vehicles but were unsuccessful.
Inquiries are continuing, but at this stage, police believe the two incidents are linked.
They have asked anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incidents to contact them on 0845 600 8000. Or, to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
