'Interest In Shackleton Barracks Is Significant' - OFMDFM
The Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) has said that interest in the Shackleton Barracks in Ballykelly, Co L'Derry, has been "significant".
Ownership of the former army base, which is a 720-acre site containing a range of office buildings, hangars and accommodation blocks, was given free to the Northern Ireland Executive in 2011.
The site has been empty since the army left in 2008.
Failure to sell the site led the Executive to seek redevelopment suggestions, asking estate agents to present options for its future.
It is understood that plans for the site, submitted by BTWShiells, cover the commercial, agricultural, leisure and community sectors.
An OFMDFM spokesperson said that all expressions of interest would be considered.
Adding: "Options will be provided to ministers to allow them to determine the suitability to go forward with development plans.
"It is recognised that value for the site is not just monetary but economic and social."
