Police to increase west Belfast peaceline patrols

Police are set to increase patrols along the west Belfast peaceline following talks between local community representatives and the PSNI's west Belfast district commander.

The meeting, which was called by the DUP, comes shortly before a highly contentious Orange Order march in the Whiterock area of the city.

Loyalist and nationalist community workers claim community relations have improved in recent months. However there is concern among residents at the increase in minor attacks along the interface lately.

But considerable progress on the ground, community leaders have conceded that it is inevitable that tensions will heighten as the date of the march, which takes place later this month, approaches.
